A braille watch has arrived and it’s the first of its class. Dot is a South Korean developer who has produced the very first braille watch that displays information for the visually impaired by connecting to a smartphone via Bluetooth.

The Dot Watch can receive text messages from apps and other services while users can send messages with the touch of a button located on the side of the watch.

The watch also provides an open API allowing app developers to adapt to the watch. Three years and 140,000 backers later — that includes Stevie Wonder — this watch is prepared to ship in April of this year.

Although digital devices for the visually impaired have been around, none of them have compared to the Dot Watch. Most digital Braille watches are expensive, bulky, and difficult to work with.
