Back in 1869, there was an insane asylum built in New York called the Willard Asylum. Many of the patients that were committed to the asylum never left the confines of its walls… many staying an average of about 30 years. When the asylum closed in 1975 it was put onto the National Register of Historic Places…. where it still stands today.
Which brings us to these suitcases….. Many of the patients brought in suitcases filled with their belongings, intact and unopened, until just recently. What’s even more incredible is that there is only 400 of these remaining…
Thanks to photographer Jon Crispin, who has spent the last few years breathing life back into these abandoned suitcases, by documenting and taking a series of photographs.
These are essentially time capsules and everything inside is quite interesting
