    Lounge Suit vs Dinner Suit

Lounge suits and dinner suits are some of the suits worn by men in public gatherings, outings, and other communal occasions. Since both suits are of clothing sets used in the public eye and in formal events, both types of suits are a must in a man’s wardrobe. There is a difference in the degree of the formality when a certain suit is used.

The lounge suit is characterized as a two-piece suit that consists of a shirt worn with a tie and a pair of trousers. The shirt’s colors are often dark tones but never black. Jackets are optional. The lounge suit is often worn at semi-formal occasions or at events where there is a degree of formality and casualness.

On the other hand, the dinner suit is a three-piece suit consisting of an overall black suit paired with a white shirt and a vest or waistcoat inside. The suit can also be worn in white (white jacket and white shirt) while the other corresponding elements of the suit can be in black (black trousers, bow tie, and black shoes). Replacing the tie as the neck accessory is the bow tie. The dinner jacket (either single breasted or double breasted) is a must to complete the formal and elegant look. There are also some additional pieces like the pocket squares or handkerchiefs, the overcoat, the cummerbund (for single-breasted suits), the boutonnière (or buttonhole), and cuff links or short studs. If a man is part of the military, the military decorations can be also part of his accessories rather than wearing the dress whites or mess dress.

Silk or satin are often used in the lapels of the suit’s lapel and the strip on the side of the trousers. The dinner suit has more variety in terms of style and can consist of complicated combinations. To complete both looks, a shiny pair of leather shoes is often worn for the feet.

In the majority of time, the lounge suit (or the business suit) is the preferred outfit of business men or office workers. It is often the style every working day and comes in a variety of designs (especially the tie). The business suit or the lounge suit tries to achieve and provide a modern, efficient, versatile, and comfortable look. The dinner suit, meanwhile, is also an important staple for the working man even though it is only used in formal to ultra-formal affairs. The black dinner suit conveys elegance, formality, glamour, and sophistication.
