Shannon Goff decided to pay tribute to her late grandfather and to the city of Detroit by recreating her grandfather’s 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V out of pure cardboard. The ambitious sculpture titled, “Miles to Empty” pays homage to the world’s automotive capital and American luxury car obsessions.

While it’s not the original color of her grandfather’s Lincoln, Goff explained, “I had considered making it the color of my grandfather’s, but in the end I decided white was perfect,” said Goff. “It’s forlorn and forgotten, a ghost rider of sorts.

It’s about memory and loss and is ultimately a memorial to my grandfather and to the city of Detroit.” She was born in Detroit and has had a lifelong interest in the evolution of transportation.
